Nanshan Tower | ||
The project was to design a 41,000 mē tower with two primary functions, 18,000 mē of Hotel and 18,000 mē of Office space with an additional 5,000 mē of commercial space and parking. The site is in the Nanshan District, of Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. Adjacent to the site is a public park that stretches to the Nanshan, or southern mountain, which gives the district its name. The project site has views to the mountain and the international Ports of Shenzhen. Working in collaboration with Henri van Hoeve, we approached the design by looking at the sites relationship to the park and the mountain, and its L shaped boundary in relationship to the program. We initially separated the primarily 50-50 functions into the two legs of the L. Then we shifted the volumes to create a single volume, and rotated the 18,000 mē Hotel volume to allow for maximum views toward the mountain.
