Tai Yuan Restaurant

In order to create a visual connection between the basement, first floor, and second floor of this 1000 square meter restaurant in Tai Yuan, Shanxi, China, a central core is created. The 3 tiered volume, creates a unity to the levels, and acts as a core of light for the dining and circulation zones.  As a concept for the exterior facade, a pattern is derived from Chinese tradition, and an abstraction of the 3 tiered volumes form, and provides a unique quality to the space.
